Mr and Mrs Mitchell contacted us as they wanted cork flooring laying. They were introduced to us via a flooring manufacturer who recommend us as one of their approved installers. The client wasn’t actually in the geographical area we normally cover, but we were more than happy to make an exception for them. The initial enquiry was for a natural, sustainable flooring for two bedrooms and staircases.
During our search for cork flooring we were introduced to H2H Flooring as a recommended installer – whilst they covered the Yorkshire area and we were in Manchester, there was no other approved installer any closer. Since the manufacturer was recommending them, we thought we’d give them a call and ask them if they’d be willing to travel and come out to quote.
When we visited the Mitchell’s home and looked at the areas they wanted covering it became apparent that their first choice, cork flooring, would not be the most suitable.
This was for a number of reasons. Cork cannot be laid on staircases and their rooms required fitting around expansion gaps and indentations. They also have a gorgeous cat in their family. Sharp claws on cork flooring are never the best idea!
We had quite a lot of communication with the Mitchell’s via email on the different materials available, actually resulting in us producing six different quotes for them. We pride ourselves on finding the right solution for our clients and so never mind going above and beyond to ensure that they achieve a beautiful design and result for their home.
When Phil came out to assess our home and our lifestyle, he advised us against the cork flooring we had been considering. His reasoning made perfect sense as he pointed out things we just would never have considered. We were recommended a range of wool carpets that would better suit our needs and were very happy with the choices we had, and the quotations provided.
The product chosen was a flatweave carpet from Crucial Trading in two different colours – one for the bedrooms and one for the stairs. It’s quite a unique and specialised product. There was a wait for the edging for the staircases as the product is always in high demand. It then had to be delivered to the client’s home in advance of fitting so that it could acclimatise and be ready for installation.
The carpets were installed over 9mm crumb underlay and fully bonded, as recommended by the manufacturer.
When fitting on the stairs we installed a Shim from Stair-rods to make the landing the same level as the bathroom which had previously had tiles laid raising its floor level.
The pattern was matched throughout the bedrooms and staircases.
Phil kept us informed of the process and timescales. He installed the carpet to an incredibly high standard (he is a perfectionist!) He even returned on a Saturday to fit the final piece, a stair runner which we had to have made to specifically fit our property.
As you can see from the photos, the carpets look stunning. In total it took six months from the initial enquiry to the finished floor, but this was down to lockdown coming into force just as the work was agreed. The original carpets decided on in March were changed once we came out of lockdown and I think you’ll agree, the client made exactly the right decision.
The high level of expertise and professionalism went throughout our whole experience working with Phil and his team at H2H Flooring. The results are beautiful – we could not have asked for a better experience and would recommend him 100%.
